Have your say in Parliament!

Wild Futures, together with the Primate Society of Great Britain, is hosting a Parliamentary Reception at the House of Commons on the 17th of November 2014. We will highlight the problems associated with the keeping of primates as pets, and call for an end to this trade in the UK. A change in the law is needed to stop primates from suffering this cruel and unnecessary fate, and now is the perfect time to act!

We need to make the most of this opportunity; to keep the subject under the spotlight and to let MPs know that the majority of people want this cruel trade to end. Let’s make sure we all speak together. The primates need us!

How you can help:

1. Fill out our ‘Primates should not be kept as pets because…’ speech bubble!

Print out the speech bubble by clicking on the button below. Send us a photo of you with your bubble and we will take it to Parliament, to show your support for our campaign, by including your contribution in our display on the day!

TV presenter George McGavin has pledged his support and sculptor Rudy Weller will be lending some of his sculptures for the event.

The UK needs to catch up with the other countries, which have already banned the keeping of primates as pets. We have been working hard over the years on this campaign and in the past few months our work has gained momentum. Earlier this year, a Parliamentary Committee looked into the keeping of primates as pets in the UK and they supported a ban in principle, but did not commit to acting now. In addition, the Government will be reviewing the Code of Practice for the Welfare for Privately Kept Non-Human Primates at the beginning of next year, so this is the perfect time to spread the word.

Every delay in passing legislation banning the keeping of primates as pets simply prolongs the suffering of individuals kept in unsuitable environments. We must act now.
