Tjark Plat – Facilities Manager

Tjark graduated from university in the Netherlands in 1991 with a degree in business administration/mechanical engineering. In 1993 he participated in a six-month climbing expedition in South and North America and later became a self-employed management trainer for 7 years specialising in leadership and communication skills using outdoor exercises. Tjark arrived at the Monkey Sanctuary as a volunteer for the first time in 1998 and returned a number of times in a voluntary capacity. Tjark spent three months in a conservation organisation in Nigeria building a transition camp for mangabees and mona monkeys before returning to the Sanctuary in 2000 full-time to become the Site Maintenance Manager.

Tjark is responsible for design and construction of monkey territory, along with general responsibility for overall site maintenance.
