Happy New Year of the Monkey!

A special New Year’s message from our Director…

2016 is Year of the Monkey in the Chinese calendar which, of course, warms the heart of Wild Futures. In fact, as a charity dedicated to protecting primates and habitats worldwide, every year is a year of the monkey (ape and prosimian…) to us!

We’ve had another busy year and, once again, with the help of our fantastic supporters, we have achieved so much. In the past 12 months we have continued to care for monkeys rescued from the primate pet trade, we have hosted a visit from the Government Minister for animal welfare as part of our campaign to end this cruel trade, we have expanded our education work and we awarded grants to primate welfare, conservation and education projects in habitat countries. As governments around the world committed to work to prevent global warming in 2015, we remember how important primates are to the health of the forests that, in turn, keep our world habitable for us humans. We were delighted to receive an award for our native UK wildlife work and thanks to the amazing gift of a legacy, we were able build on our commitment to sustainability by installing a biomass boiler, which, with the solar panels already in place, all helps to keep our footprint light on our precious planet. The coming year promises to be even busier than the last, with so much to be done, at home, in Cornwall, as well as abroad. The big 2016  project for our charity is Mission Marmoset – we must raise £60,000 to build dedicated facilities at our Sanctuary, for the smallest victim of the primate pet trade, the tiny marmoset. The appeal has got off to a good start and we are determined that 2016 will see us building to offer sanctuary to these beautiful creatures.

An enormous thank you is due to our wonderful supporters who make the work of Wild Futures possible. Happy 2016 everyone, together we can make this Year of the Monkey the best year yet for protecting primates and habitats worldwide!
