Education/ Play Assistant (Voluntary)

Wild Futures is looking for an enthusiastic seasonal volunteer to join the Monkey Sanctuary education team from 4th July to September 5th 2010.

The role: 5 days a week, Sunday through Thursday, although some flexibility can be arranged; 8.30am – 5pm. Each morning all volunteers are asked to help out on “Routine” which is the daily cleaning of all enclosures and monkey rooms. 

The afternoon will involve running children’s workshops; ranging from bat box building and enrichment making, to tattoo and face painting. There may also be an opportunity to do talks and help our keepers answer visitor questions. The maintenance of our educational facilities.

Requirements:  A passion for animal welfare, the environment and education. We are looking for an enthusiastic person with a friendly, approachable manner and good communication skills, who is committed to our cause and has some previous experience working with children and young people. The post will also require a CBR check.

Accommodation: Our seasonal long term volunteers are provided with free food and on site accommodation. There are communal dormitories, kitchen, dining area, lounge and garden and internet access. 

Experiences: Volunteering for Wild Futures at the Monkey Sanctuary will provide you with a wide range of valuable experiences including communal living in the beautiful county of Cornwall, learning about our resident monkeys and the work the Sanctuary carries out, working with the public, developing your own workshop and educational skills. 

Location: Located on the south coast of Cornwall the Sanctuary nestles on woodland cliffs overlooking the sea with views across to Whitsands Bay. The beautiful historic fishing port of East and West Looe is a 35 minute walk away along the coastal path, with picturesque bays and beaches all around.

N.B. The post of Education assistant does not involve any Keeper work or any direct contact with the monkeys at the Sanctuary.
