Wild Futures Exotic Pet Trade Day

17th October 2014

Wild Futures was at Duchy College yesterday for our Exotic Pet Trade day. Every year we arrange a series of talks from experts in their field to discuss the welfare, conservation and ethical implications of keeping exotic animals as pets in the UK. Our audience this year included vets and local authority enforcement officers, alongside Level 3 and Foundation Degree Animal Management students from the Cornwall College Stoke Climsland, Rosewarne and Newquay campuses. All enjoyed informative talks from Wild Futures (Primates), Nicola White, Senior Scientific Officer with the RSPCA, regarding reptiles and Greg Glendell, one of the UK’s leading parrot behaviourists on the keeping of parrots. The event concluded with Peter Ferris an RSPCA exotic animal inspector discussing his work and cases that he has worked on regarding exotic animal rescues. We filled the hall with over 120 attendees and are already planning next year’s event – even bigger, and of course better!
