Blue Chip Holidays Adopt a Monkey!
Luxury holiday accommodation company, Blue Chip Holidays (www.bluechipholidays.co.uk) based in the South West has joined leading primate welfare charity Wild Future’s troop and adopted one of their monkeys.
Wild Futures aims to protect primates and habitats worldwide. Its biggest UK project is The Monkey Sanctuary based near Looe, Cornwall. The charity launched its corporate adoption scheme last year as a way for companies to support its vital work. The team at Blue Chip Holidays selected young capuchin Amy as their chosen monkey.
The Monkey Sanctuary took in Amy last year, as part of a large group. Sadly, Amy lost her baby brother, Pepper to tetanus, following the awful winter storms. The Sanctuary site was affected significantly and it was a very difficult time for the Wild Futures team. Thankfully, following the help from valued supporters and the general public, the Sanctuary was able to recover from the damage. Reassuringly, Amy has been getting great attention ever since from her mum, Betty who lives with her in the same group. Amy is a very clever female capuchin and uses her intelligence to get what she wants in her group.
Wild Futures’ Monkey Sanctuary is the only accredited sanctuary in Europe which means that it fits the comprehensive and rigorous definition of a true sanctuary, providing humane and responsible care for animals. The Sanctuary has seen a rise over recent years in the number of monkeys being kept as pets and receives calls almost weekly to rescue more. Sadly many of the monkeys that end up at the Sanctuary are damaged either physically or psychologically, following their time kept as pets.
Hayley Dann, Head of Income Generation and PR at Wild Futures states: “We are over the moon to have Blue Chip Holidays on board as a corporate adopter. It is a fantastic mutually beneficial scheme and we hope that more businesses get involved. We are especially grateful for support at this time as our charity has been under great financial strain recently and requires more help than ever due to the increased demand for our rescue centre’s services.”
Martin McIver from Blue Chip Holidays stated: “At www.bluechipholidays.co.uk we are pleased to support the hard work that Wild Futures do to produce such a great environment for these primates.”
