Online Art Auction in aid of Wild Futures

The current interns and some of the volunteers at The Monkey Sanctuary have set up an online art auction raising funds for Wild Futures. The fundraiser is being organised by Lauren, one of our primate care interns as part of her intern project. The auction is now live and will take place until midday on the 11th of August on eBay! There are some beautiful pieces of art up for grabs, so please follow the link below or click here to place your bid!

The interns have made the art works themselves, using their own hobbies and skills to inspire their creative journey. Let’s hear what they all have to say about the work that they are doing and why they want to do it:

Lauren

Hi, I’m Lauren, I’m a primate care intern at Wild Futures and I work specifically with the capuchins. I have a background in conservation and primatology, and I’m really grateful to be able to spend a year at Wild Futures. Wild Futures is a place not only dedicated to the welfare of the primates here, but also in the wild, as well as campaigning end the primate pet trade in the UK. I decided to organise and participate in this art fundraiser because I know how much work goes into all aspects of Wild Futures’ mission on a daily basis, and how hard the consequences of the pandemic have been on the sanctuary. I love art, drawing and painting, and I thought putting interns and volunteers together in a common project to help raise funds for this amazing place would be a great idea for all of us.

Alex

Hi, I am Alex. After living in the Middle East during high school I came back to the UK for university, I’m currently on my placement year studying wildlife ecology and conservation science. I care for the marmosets at Wild Futures and I’m loving it. I like creating black and white art because it highlights every feature of the subject.

Mathilde

My name is Mathilde and I’m an intern at Wild Futures on the Site and Sustainability team. I help to make sure the enclosures are safe and secure for the monkeys and humans, and to make the sanctuary a wonderful place for visitors. I came from Denmark and started at the sanctuary nine months ago, and my time here has been absolutely amazing and a life changing experience for me. It is very rewarding to see all the hard work pay off and know you are making a difference to make the monkeys thrive. The monkeys all have their own unique personalities and quirks, and that’s why I chose to make poems for my fundraising – to give more of an insight to their nature and group dynamics (other than just their stunning visual appearances). I hope you will be intrigued by our fundraising projects to help all our lovely monkeys here at the sanctuary. Thank you!

Amelia

Hey I’m Amelia, I came to Wild Futures 8 months ago as a volunteer and now I work with the Barbary macaques as a primate care intern. I have a background in conservation and studied zoology at university. I want to take part in this fundraiser because I see first-hand the work that goes into caring for the monkeys at the sanctuary and know that without fundraising this wouldn’t be possible! I make macramé wall hangings with Cornish driftwood; it started as a way of keeping myself busy during the second lock-down and has now grown into a great hobby and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Jono

I enjoy combining my love of animals with my interest in graphic design to create infographics and portraits. I’m raising money for Wild Futures because as an intern I have seen first-hand how the monkeys have benefited from a life at the sanctuary. Since their rescue they are all much happier and healthier monkeys!

Katie

Hello! I’m Katie, a recurring volunteer and soon to be intern here at The Monkey Sanctuary. Wild Futures continually amazes me with the incredible work they carry out, so it is a privilege to be associated with such a good cause through taking part in this fundraiser. I mainly enjoy doing portraits of the monkeys which I like to think are unique as I know their characters.

Veronica

Hello, I’m Veronica. I’ve been volunteering at Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary for almost 4 weeks. I’ve always been interested in animals and wildlife but I didn’t know how to pursue this interest without a degree. Fortunately, I found Wild Futures who offer those without prior experience and opportunity to learn about monkeys and animal care. I’m participating in this fundraiser because I understand the hard-work and money that’s needed to keep the sanctuary running. The monkeys receive healthy and varied diets and all the enclosures require constant maintenance so they’re safe and clean. The sanctuary is also just one facet of Wild Futures’ work which also focuses on education and campaigning. My plan for the fundraiser is to create an illustrative map of the sanctuary grounds. I hope it would be an interesting celebration of the sanctuary and a great keepsake for fans of Wild Futures. I plan to include snippets of information about the monkeys, wildlife, and history of the grounds.

Rachel

Hey I’m Rachel, I’m a volunteer at the Monkey Sanctuary. I have volunteered here three times now because I love the sanctuary and everything they do for the monkeys. I’d like to participate in the fundraiser because I want to help raise money towards the amazing work that Wild Futures does for the monkeys here and helping to end the primate pet trade. I chose to do a comic strip because the characters are always strong and colourful, just like the personalities of all the monkeys here! I chose Tam to be the focus of the comic because he’s my favourite capuchin at the sanctuary and he stands out because of his intelligence and beauty, and the way he interacts with his monkey friends!

The auction is now live and will run until midday on Wednesday 11th August with all proceeds being donated to Wild Futures. To see the amazing artwork and place your bid, please click here!
