About Chanel

Chanel was taken from her mother as a tiny baby to be hand-reared and kept as a pet with another monkey named Coco. They were later confiscated after Coco escaped from the dog-kennel they were being kept in and it was found that their owner didn’t have the correct license to keep them. They both came to live at our Sanctuary in 2003.

On arrival, Chanel, known more commonly as "Nelly", was underweight and frightened. She displayed severe stereotypical behaviours such as teeth grinding, hand clapping, and jumping up and down; a testament to her old life. Chanel has since improved physically and psychologically and she now flourishes with the specialist care she receives. Her friend Coco has passed away, but she lives happily in a social group with friends Gucci and Lodi. Her carers find that she is usually the first to bed, always with one of her fleecy blankets in tow!

Adopting Chanel means that you are helping to provide the resources needed to give Chanel the best life possible. Your adoption also enables Wild Futures to continue its vital work campaigning for an end to the primate pet trade in the UK and abroad.
