About Olly

Name: Olly

Species: Weeper Capuchin (Cebus olivaceus)

Who is he? The Energetic Youngster

Special skills: Carrying lots of peanuts in his hands, feet and tail!

Olly was born into the primate pet trade in 2014 and came to live at the Sanctuary in March 2019. Sadly, not a lot of his past is known like so many of the monkeys we rescue from the pet trade, but we do know that he was seen being taken on the London Underground, an incredibly stressful, scary and unnatural environment for a monkey, on a lead by a concerned member of the public. Thankfully, they reported what they saw, which lead to Olly being confiscated.

He began his new life at Wild Future’s Monkey Sanctuary as a low-ranking individual, but he shows huge potential to mature into a strong adult male who could rise up the ranks in time - if he learns the important social lessons first that is!

Olly is still young so he really enjoys spending his days playing with his friends and climbing really high up! He is always on the move and loves to forage for snacks - a very natural behaviour but one he has only learnt since being rescued!

Primates are intelligent and sociable animals and being kept as pets is a lonely, under-stimulating existence that can lead to abnormal behaviours. These behaviours may remain with the monkeys for the rest of their lives. But with enough environmental stimulation, social company, and lots of space with access to branches and trees, we can help these monkeys recover and offer them a stable, stimulating, and social life at the Sanctuary.

Adopting Olly means that you are helping to provide the resources needed to give Olly the best life possible. Your adoption also enables Wild Futures to continue its vital work campaigning for an end to the primate pet trade in the UK and abroad.

Our adoptions are purely symbolic, which means you will not receive any real animals in the post! Monkeys are wild animals – not domesticated pets.
